Don’t Touch That Ceiling Yet: Fast Asbestos Testing for Las Vegas Homes

You can’t see asbestos. You can’t smell it. Your contractor can’t tell by looking either. The only way to know what’s in your popcorn ceiling is a lab test — and it’s fast, simple and cheap compared to cleaning up a mistake.

Trained sampling · Accredited lab · Written results you can show buyers or insurers

TEST FIRST. Popcorn, stucco and cottage-cheese ceilings in homes built before the mid-1980s may contain asbestos. You can’t tell by looking. Don’t scrape, sand or drill until a sample is tested. Learn about asbestos testing →

Who Should Get a Test

  • Planning to remove or repair a popcorn ceiling in a home built before the mid-1980s.
  • Already started scraping and just learned about asbestos. Stop and test now.
  • Water damage or crumbling texture on an older ceiling.
  • Selling or buying and want a clear answer for disclosures or negotiation. See selling a house with popcorn ceilings.
  • Landlords who need records before turnover work.
  • Not sure when your home was built. Check our asbestos by build year guide.

How Asbestos Testing Works

  1. Book the visit. Tell us your address, build year and which rooms you’re testing.
  2. Sampling. A trained tech wets a small spot and takes a few small samples from each different ceiling area. It takes minutes per room and the spots are patched.
  3. Accredited lab. Samples go to a lab accredited for asbestos analysis (look for NVLAP accreditation).
  4. Written results. Usually in a few business days, with faster options available. You get a report showing whether asbestos was found and how much.
  5. Next step. Clear result: we send a regular removal pro. Positive result: we connect you with licensed asbestos abatement.

Why Not Use a DIY Test Kit?

Mail-in kits exist, and a lab result is a lab result. But sampling it yourself means disturbing the ceiling yourself — without a respirator, without wetting it properly, and often from just one spot. If rooms were added or redone at different times, one sample can miss the problem. Professional sampling is safer and the report carries more weight with buyers, insurers and contractors.

What “Positive” Means

In general, material with more than 1% asbestos is treated as asbestos-containing. Even small amounts matter once you start scraping. If your test is positive, don’t panic — leave the ceiling alone and look at your options: removal, sealing or covering. Read asbestos removal in Las Vegas.

Asbestos Testing Questions

How long do asbestos test results take?

Standard results usually come back in a few business days. Rush options are often available for a higher fee.

How many samples do I need?

At least one per distinct ceiling area. If rooms were built, added or re-textured at different times, each should be sampled.

Is asbestos testing worth it if my house is from the 1990s?

Much less likely to have asbestos, but not impossible if older materials were used. If you’re not sure of the build year or parts were added later, a test is cheap peace of mind.

Who does the testing?

Trained, licensed asbestos professionals take the samples, and an accredited lab analyzes them. SVC books it for you and does not perform testing itself.

Can I show the results to buyers?

Yes. A written lab report is useful for disclosures and negotiations. Ask your agent what needs to be disclosed.
